Spill-over Effect into the Classroom?

If coaches are victim to this age-based-bias thing, and advancing the (relatively) older kids to the travel and all-star teams, then what about teachers and schools? Are the older kids getting placed into Gifted and Talented/accelerated programs, while their younger classmates are more often misdiagnosed with reading/learning disabilities?
